Mix and match these 5 ideas into your 2019 wedding plans. Any designer would be thrilled to put these invitation trends to use. Out with the old and in with the new!

1. Velvet
Please get rid of the jute and twine and upgrade to velvet. It is crazy versatile! Combine velvet with a rustic design to create a more formal feeling. Or add a deep jewel colored velvet with your simple and classic white invite design for a lush pop of color. If you’ve decided to use lined envelopes, line them with velvet. Try creating a velvet frame around your invitation card by gluing it to a velvet mat backing. Instead of expensive pocket enclosures, simply wrap your invitation suite in velvet ribbon.

2. Patterns & Textures
There are endless ways to add patterns and textures into your invitation. Ask your custom invitation designer to show you some textured card stocks. Watercolor (or “felt” finish) type papers are extremely popular right now and most times they can even be run through a digital press. For a rustic couple with a larger budget, wood card stock is now a thing. The wood grain looks amazing with letterpress printing. To include a fun pattern, wrapped invitation suites are perfect. You can find beautiful papers with trendy patterns at craft and stationery stores, or have your invitation designer create a custom pattern to match your wedding theme. If you don’t want to wrap the whole suite, just use a classic vellum belly band.

3. Color!
Don’t be afraid of color. Ever. It can create such a cheerful feeling for your guests when they are surrounded by bright color combos. Even just one intense shade added to a subtle blend of colors can elevate your wedding day to the next level. If you are unsure of what tones go well together, visit Pinterest. Let’s say your wedding color is pink, just search “vibrant pink color palette”. Your wedding planner and/or florist can also assist with creating a color palette that will be extraordinary and memorable. Envelopes are my favorite way to incorporate color into a wedding invitation suite. Most of our mail arrives in a white envelope, so for sure your friends and family will be excited to see a tangerine or lime green envelope in their mailbox.

4. Industrial Rustic
I am a Colorado wedding invitation designer, so rustic weddings are crazy common here. 2018 gave us “rustic chic”, but now 2019 moves us toward a mix of modern straight lines with relaxed natural elements. Think exposed brick, wood and metal, and large numbers and letters. If this concept appeals to you and your fiancé, request a minimalist and earthy invite layout from your designer. Keep the colors neutral, the fonts eye-catching, and the imagery textured.

5. Custom
More and more couples are producing one-of-a-kind wedding celebrations that stand out from the rest. Customizing your wedding invitations is the best way to drive that idea home. I encourage couples to be creative by implementing their own personality and style into the overall look and feel of their invitation suite. Put an image/drawing of your wedding venue on the card, include your favorite quote or heritage and religious symbols. Remember, the invitation is an important connection between you and your guests. Use it to make an impact on friends and family so that they can get excited to attend your big day!
